Product Description

Created as a club "one-design", the Sakonnet was originally designed in 1937 for the Sakonnet Yacht Club in Little Compton, Rhode Island. Having a specific boat designed for a club to use in racing was very popular in the thirties. As pretty to look at as she was to sail, the Sakonnet featured a heavy displacement hull with a deep keel for additional stability, high freeboard for a dry ride, modest sail area and a spacious open cockpit area protected by high coamings and watertight bulkheads fore and aft, providing a very safe daysailer. The modern Marconi rig rounds out the overall look of this classic sailboat. This model has been created using original drawings from John G. Alden Navel Architects.

A Complete Kit: Features Midwest's Micro-Cut Quality Balsa, Basswood and Mahogany parts.

Accurately pre-cut component featuring keel, rudder, frames, deck, cockpit floor, seats and coamings. All fittings and rigging materials, including sailcloth.

When you build these boats, you will learn real boat building techniques with different types of hull construction such as lapstrake and strip planking. The hull of each boat is built on a frame, just like the real thing.
