Product Description

Throughout the southwest Missions and roses are often found side by side. Together, they are a study in contrasts: strength of purpose with beauty's subtlety. This bell's double tones capture this marriage of the stately and ephemeral, with each tone a unique complement to the other's perfection.

This handcrafted wind bell is made with the same care and tuned to the same distinctive tone as our Maine Buoy bells.

The maker of these bells was a New England lobsterman for many years. He recorded actual bell and gong buoys and cut the steel to match the tones reminiscent of each location. These bells are crafted from a high-grade steel known as Cor-Ten®, which is widely used on bridges, guard rails and buildings. With exposure to weather, it will develop a rich rusty color, but will not rust out. sound sample

2 tone, 10" High.

Buoys are usually anchored or moored at the entrance to a harbor or at the edge of a channel, as a guide to navigators. They are instrumental in providing a system of safe navigation of coastal regions throughout the world.

Bell buoys are surmounted with a bell that is sounded by the motion of the waves. Tones are carried for a great distance over water, and most bell buoys have thier own distinctive mix of tones for easy identification, even before a sea-faring navigator actually reaches them.

The North Country Wind Bells™ are made with Cor-Ten®, a high grade steel used on bridges, guard rails, and buildings because it requires no maintenance. Cor-Ten® will not flake, peel, or rust out, but as it weathers it naturally oxidizes. The steel tempers with age, adding strength, and creating clearer, more resonant tones. The bells are designed to hang outdoors year-round, without twisting, tangling, or beaking. The bells can be silenced by pushing the stricker up into the pyramid.

The creator of the Wind Bells™ was a New England lobsterman for many years. He recorded the actual bell buoy sounds and spent hours cutting steel to match the resonant tones. This windbell collection is based on his interpretation of many bell and gong buoys along the New England coastline. They provide the listener with the beautifully haunting tones that accompany life in a New England harbor region.

Cor-Ten® is a registered trademark of USX Corp.
